ARE YOU READY TO JOIN THE PARTY??

Check out what this Zumba craze is all about...I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

If you haven’t heard about Zumba before let me fill you in: Zumba is a fun, exciting fitness class based on simple Latin American dance moves.  It’s not a dance class, it’s not a gym class - it’s a party!  So it doesn’t matter if you cant dance, if you haven’t exercised in a while or if you think yourself completely uncoordinated - the emphasis is on having fun and Zumba is for everyone!  However, do come prepared to sweat - it’s an awesome workout!

Feel free to bring your friends and tell everyone you know to get down to the class!  The bigger the party - the better!

Sydney Vegan Bake Sale, Newtown 26 June - Proceeds to A Poultry Place Bird Santuary

They're doing it again this month... The Sydney Vegan Bake Sale will be at the Newtown Square Markets (across the road from the train station, outside the Community Centre) on Saturday June 26 from 8am until 12 midday - yep, that's right, they're finishing earlier this month so make sure you drop by during the morning so you don't miss out!

There will be gluten free and sugar free options as well as savoury baked goods for anyone who's not into sweet treats!

All proceeds will be donated to A Poultry Place, a bird sanctuary in Canberra for neglected chickens, turkeys, ducks and other poultry.

Who is doing the baking?
A group of Sydney vegans who hold bake sales to raise money for animal-related charities. They started by participating in the first Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale and then realised what a great opportunity it was and have decided to continue their bake sales on a regular basis.

This is a great opportunity to taste some amazing food and support a great cause!  Get behind the Sydney Vegan Bake! And if you're still not sure check out some of the photos from the last one...:-)

Street Art of Sydney's Inner West - Author Melinda Vassallo

Street Art of Sydney’s Inner West

Author Melinda Vassallo

Graffiti or Street Art is often seen as the defacing of public property. So who would have thought that the clandestine inscription, "Eternity", by a local graffiti artist would become a celebrated symbol to welcome in the new Millennium.

Sydney’s inner west is uniquely rich in street art and has some of the best examples in Australia. This is despite the fact that many landmark pieces have disappeared due to high-density housing construction and increased renovation of buildings.

Street Art of Sydney’s Inner West a pictorial reference book is a celebration of 30 years of street art and the artists who create it.

Meet the artists and their crews in their own words and art.

The book can be found in the Art Gallery NSW, Museum of Sydney, MCA and Museum of Sydney along with major Sydney bookshops such as Dead, Berkelouw Books Newtown + Gleebooks.  Also available online at: Fineline Design
About Melinda Vassallo
Melinda Vassallo is a qualified Graphic Designer and Art Director with more than 20 years in the industry. Her experience ranges from traditional typography, design and advertising through to the new digital media.

These last 10 years Melinda has been working under the company name of Fineline Type & Design and during these years has held contracts for the design and production of several hi-profile companies.

Melinda has lived in the inner city for most of her life and has always found inspiration for her design on the streets. Over the past few years she has been photographing graffiti and other street art forms found in the streets of Sydney, developing a passion for the ever-changing movement of Street Art.

In 2008 Melinda won an arts grant to produce a pictorial reference book on the Street Art of the Inner West.

More recently, Melinda Vassallo is the author of the published book Street Art of Sydney's Inner West. Fineline Type & Design was the publisher and promoter of the book.

She has given talks about the growing subculture of Street Art at The Powerhouse Museum and helped organise Street Art and HipHop events about Sydney.
