Sydney Vegan Bake Sale, Newtown 26 June - Proceeds to A Poultry Place Bird Santuary

They're doing it again this month... The Sydney Vegan Bake Sale will be at the Newtown Square Markets (across the road from the train station, outside the Community Centre) on Saturday June 26 from 8am until 12 midday - yep, that's right, they're finishing earlier this month so make sure you drop by during the morning so you don't miss out!

There will be gluten free and sugar free options as well as savoury baked goods for anyone who's not into sweet treats!

All proceeds will be donated to A Poultry Place, a bird sanctuary in Canberra for neglected chickens, turkeys, ducks and other poultry.

Who is doing the baking?
A group of Sydney vegans who hold bake sales to raise money for animal-related charities. They started by participating in the first Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale and then realised what a great opportunity it was and have decided to continue their bake sales on a regular basis.

This is a great opportunity to taste some amazing food and support a great cause!  Get behind the Sydney Vegan Bake! And if you're still not sure check out some of the photos from the last one...:-)

Street Art of Sydney's Inner West - Author Melinda Vassallo

Street Art of Sydney’s Inner West

Author Melinda Vassallo

Graffiti or Street Art is often seen as the defacing of public property. So who would have thought that the clandestine inscription, "Eternity", by a local graffiti artist would become a celebrated symbol to welcome in the new Millennium.

Sydney’s inner west is uniquely rich in street art and has some of the best examples in Australia. This is despite the fact that many landmark pieces have disappeared due to high-density housing construction and increased renovation of buildings.

Street Art of Sydney’s Inner West a pictorial reference book is a celebration of 30 years of street art and the artists who create it.

Meet the artists and their crews in their own words and art.

The book can be found in the Art Gallery NSW, Museum of Sydney, MCA and Museum of Sydney along with major Sydney bookshops such as Dead, Berkelouw Books Newtown + Gleebooks.  Also available online at: Fineline Design
About Melinda Vassallo

Melinda has lived in the inner city for most of her life and has always found inspiration for her design on the streets. Over the past few years she has been photographing graffiti and other street art forms found in the streets of Sydney, developing a passion for the ever-changing movement of Street Art.

In 2008 Melinda won an arts grant to produce a pictorial reference book on the Street Art of the Inner West.

More recently, Melinda Vassallo is the author of the published book Street Art of Sydney's Inner West. Fineline Type & Design was the publisher and promoter of the book.

Balmain - Efendy Modern Turkish Restaurant, by Sarah Winehouse

A Journey To Turkey...

Had dinner at Efendy in Balmain on Friday - Loved it! Somer the owner was very friendly, generous and of course knew his Turkish stuff. Food was fantastic, very interesting and tasty dishes, all with a heartwarming feel to them. The restaurant itself was lovely too, as was the service - warm, professional and attentive. You walk into the spacious courtyard area where you can sit outside on a nice day, and see the Efendy bar on your right, and then walk into the multi-level restaurant with authentic decor all around.
True Turkish cuisine and atmosphere - delicious cold mezes, hot mezes, main meals and dessert platters, all very unique to the Australian food scene. Fantastic Lamb, Beef, Touches of yoghurt and spices, Aromatic Nutty rice, and accompaniments that stood out, such as the Ahirdagi Salata  - Finely chopped salad of tomato, cucumber, red onion, walnuts, pomegranate...

At the "Mey" Efendy bar you can enjoy cocktails with a Turkish touch, aperitifs, digestives, cigars and a variety of boutique European and Australian wines by the glass before or after your dinner at the lower floor.
Corner Elliott St (no. 79) and Darling St, Balmain.
Tel: (02) 9810 5466.
Strongly recommended if you're in Sydney, check this place out and get a real taste of Turkey - you won't be disappointed :-) Fantastic vegetarian selections as well :-) Also open for Lunch and Breakfast.

Thank you Sarah for great review!  Inner West Quest would recommend checking out Sarah's blog: Wineperson, Nutiritionist, Carnivore. Currently Bringing Wine for Asian food into Sydney.
